WHAT THIS INVOLVES AND OUR APPROACH
We believe that robust and non-biased research should form the foundation of any strategy. Our research-driven approach is one of the things that sets us apart.
Research at The Moss Group can take the shape of contextual research or bespoke research.
Contextual research is core to every project we undertake. It is the foundation of everything that comes after. We conduct desktop research to allow for a broad understanding and to ensure we are in touch with the latest thinking in a particular area. We then support this with robust stakeholder engagement to allow for the deep understanding only afforded by listening to people on the ground.
Bespoke research is stand-alone research, commissioned by a client, that calls for an in-depth investigation into issues and opportunities that align with those targeted in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Responsible Consumption and Production, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Hunger and Well-being, Water and Sanitation, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and Life on Land.
No matter what the project, we follow a robust approach and ensure that our clients are provided with not only accurate information but strategic insights that add real value.
OUR EXPERIENCE
The Moss Group team has years of research experience and capability between them. This spans both the academic and commercial fields.
Some of our projects have included:
- A food retail study
- Consumer research for a wine farm
- The social impact a retailer has on its supply chain
- The feasibility of a 100% local value chain
- The sustainable treatment of mine-impacted water with value recovery
- Evaluation of the feasibility of using agricultural residues for biogas production
In the Field…
The Moss Group conducted a piece of bespoke research for global investment company, Arisaig Investment Company on the ESG (environmental, socio-economic and governance) issues facing food retail in South Africa and how it would affect companies going forward. The study was instrumental in informing the company’s investment decisions in South African good businesses.
The Moss Group has driven a number of multi-year research projects, funded by the Water Research Commission, on the development of more sustainable solutions for the remediation of mining-impacted water. The research has led to the development of a semi-passive treatment technology with the potential for value recovery.
