WHAT THIS INVOLVES

If it’s a sustainability strategy you are after – The Moss Group can’t help you. If it’s a strategy that delivers sustainable outcomes – we are all in. Social, environmental and economic sustainability objectives that align with the Sustainable Development Goals are common to all our strategies.

Critical thinking, coupled with intuition and a vision for a better future, helps us identify and solve challenging strategic problems.

We work hand-in-hand with our clients to develop strategies that they know they can implement well, that can motivate their people and that drive real change. We support our clients in embedding a strategic way of thinking into their business, so that it becomes a way of life and not just a process.

OUR EXPERIENCE

We have extensive experience developing industry-level or multi-party strategies.

These strategies tend to address multifaceted and complex challenges common to industry players across a particular sector.

Our varied and deep experience in strategy, facilitation and sustainable development is a powerful resource for industry bodies, cross-sector collaboration initiatives and other stakeholders. We combine content expertise and process facilitation to ensure that conversations are robust, actions are practical and buy-in is achieved across various stakeholder groups.

The waste sector and wine industry are areas where we’ve had particularly extensive involvement over the past few years.

We also have extensive experience developing business strategies for individual corporate clients, especially in the FMCG sector, although our experience spans a diverse range of industries, from wine to healthcare.

WHAT THIS INVOLVES

Sustainability and ESG challenges tend to be systemic and have the potential to undermine even the most prosperous organisations and value chains. Gone are the days when the public sector is left to provide basic services while private entities seek only to maximise profit. Today’s challenges need to be resolved by the public and private sectors working together.

Collaboration enables a more efficient use of resources, enables broader ownership of solutions and ultimately drives greater impact.

Learning from others, sharing resources and bringing diverse thinkers together are but a few of the benefits of collaboration. It makes business sense.

The Moss Group is a catalyst for collaboration. We shift ways of thinking about non-competitive issues.

One of The Moss Group’s greatest passions is facilitating disparate groups of stakeholders to address our most challenging sustainability issues. By encouraging cooperation among organisations, we aim to strengthen the social and environmental systems in which they operate.

OUR EXPERIENCE

We have had a great deal of experience facilitating multi-stakeholder sessions.

This has ranged from:

  • Bringing together government and industry players from across a value chain or multiple related value chains, to
  • Bringing together various industry bodies and individual companies, to
  • Bringing together organisations within a single sector.

WHAT THIS INVOLVES

We believe that robust and non-biased research should form the foundation of any strategy, solution or recommendation. Our research-driven approach is one of the things that sets us apart.

Research at The Moss Group can take the shape of contextual research or bespoke research.

Contextual research is core to every project we undertake. It is the foundation of everything that comes after. We conduct desktop research to allow for a broad understanding and to ensure we are in touch with the latest thinking in a particular area. We then support this with robust stakeholder engagement to allow for the deep understanding only afforded by listening to people on the ground.

Bespoke research is stand-alone research, commissioned by a client, that calls for an in-depth investigation into issues and opportunities.

No matter what the project, we follow a robust approach and ensure that our clients are provided with not only accurate information but strategic insights that add real value.

OUR EXPERIENCE

The Moss Group team has years of research experience and capability between them. This spans both the academic and commercial fields.

Some of our recent projects include:

  • In-depth research into each aspect of the value chain required to enable and grow wine exports
  • Insights into the operating models of buy back centres (BBCs) and bakkie collectors in the South African waste economy
  • Full value chain reviews for challenging-to-collect and recycle plastic packaging materials
  • Impacts of and potential for a shift to cage-free egg production
  • The sustainable treatment of mine-impacted water with value recovery
  • Evaluation of the feasibility of using agricultural residues for biogas production
